It’s unbelievable, absurd and hugely worrying how many people still choose to drive drunk.
The amount of lives lost because someone under the influence thought they’d be okay to drive is outrageous, and yet people continue to make the wrong decision night-after-night. Paula Grzelak-Schultz, on the other hand, did not want to be remembered as a morbid statistic, and after a recent night out she decided it was best that she leave her car parked and find another way to get home.
She was parked in front of Original Joe’s in Alberta, Canada. Knowing that she was too drunk to drive home herself, she left the car there overnight, and didn’t return for a couple of days. When she got back, she noticed what she at first thought was a parking ticket. What it was, in actuality, was an incredible note from the manager of Original Joe’s, thanking Paula for choosing not to drink and drive…
“Just wanted to thank you for leaving you car parked overnight. I’m not sure if you consumed alcohol at our restaurant or not, but we wanted to thank you for not drinking and driving. Enclosed is a voucher good for 1lb of our delicious chicken wings. Please accept this as a thank you for being responsible. Life is valuable, have a great weekend.”
After Paula posted the note online, the note went instantly viral, and thousands applauded the restaurant and manager for promoting such an important message in such a brilliant way.
At the end of the day, we shouldn’t need to be rewarded to stop ourselves from driving under the influence, we shouldn’t be doing it regardless. Having said that, we love that Paula made the right choice and we love the response from the manager!
