The Twitter user explained what happened, “When I looked out of the car window I saw a round ball-shaped cloud. I gazed at the cloud for a while then I rushed to take the photo. When I saw the cloud it was an even more spherical shape, so I regret not taking the photo more quickly.”

Scientists say that this rare meteorological occurrence is classed as a “roll cloud”. Roll clouds are formed by bursts of cold air, often from sea breezes. The image below shows another example of a roll cloud.

Regardless of the scientific explanation, this is a really crazy and beautiful sight and we’re glad that the user managed to capture and share the images for us all to see. It’d definitely be more fun to look up at the sky if we could see more amazing clouds like this one floating around!
